On April 26, 2018 I underwent an amputation of my lower left leg.  I will be posting here throughout the epic journey. Feel no sadness for me for my time has come and I can move forward. For 18 years I have been in a bad relationship with my lower left leg and its time we broke it off, Literally...

please play me while reading, this is a song called Day By Day by the band The Dirty Heads. It lifts me, inspires me, drives me...

first steps

Today has been a good day. I got up and moving and was able to make 13 laps around the hall of the floor I am staying on at the UVM Medical Center. For most of the day the pain was quite manageable. Since about midnight however, the pain has intensified and I think the nerve block has completely worn off. But it's ok, because I know it is only temporary and this too shall pass.

I met with physical therapy and got their blessing to continue to "walk" about freely. I have had a lot of visitors throughout the day, and the staff have all been great. Thank you to the over 1,600 visitors to my site thus far, and all of your powerful comments and posts on facebook. I really couldn't ever thank you all enough.

Tomorrow a.m. the drain will come out and I will stay one more night to ensure no complications before returning to NY.

I'm so excited my little man came to see me. Talk about a boost, I was missing having him near me. We had a great coloring session, and he is taking this all in stride. I'm so proud of Jamie and Blake. They have struggled alongside me, through the mood swings, the times when I didn't feel like talking, those moments when I was in tears struggling to deal with pain, and the endless heartbreak my foot was causing me. I often forget to step back and realize that this is not just a monumental change for me, but for them too. I can only imagine what it must be like for them. Jamie and Blake Patrick you inspire me everyday to be a better man, father and husband. I could never do this without you. You are more than just my rock you are my Everest! I love you both so much. Blake don't forget next winter, I WILL go skiing with you little buddy.

That is about it for now.

Good bye to the Dark Days

Hey everyone, I know it has been a few days, but they have been for the better. I think that I am finally over the pain and uncomfortable part of this whole experience. The hair has grown in enough on
